State Park Place is an unincorporated community that is in both Madison and St. Clair counties. State Park Place directly borders Collinsville, IL to the east and the Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site to the west.

The State Park Place community is located just between the cities of Collinsville and Fairmont City. The town sits on part of as well as directly next to the ancient Indian burial grounds which are also known as the Cahokia Mounds State Park. Many believe that this is where the name for State Park Place originates to. Many people in the area believe that the spirits of the ancient Mississippian civilization, also known as the Cahokians, are haunting the small town.

An interesting fact about State Park Place is the Fairmount Park Racetrack. This racetrack was opened in 1925. Fairmount Park Racetrack is a horse racing track that is located between State Park Place and Collinsville. The track hosts Thoroughbred horse flat racing. This track is one of five horse racing venues currently active throughout the state of Illinois, and the only one that is outside of the Chicago, IL metropolitan area. This track previously featured Standardbred harness racing, however it was discontinued in 1999.
